Note-taking: knowing what to write down when a teacher's talking - with Dr. Deena (Owner of Awakened Learning)

Tuesday, March 18th, 7 - 7:45 PM ET
Virtual over Zoom

Note-taking is a crucial skill for learners of all ages, yet is seldom taught outright. Learners hear things like, "just write down what's most important." But what is that? How can students tell? And how should notes be formatted? This session will share with parents core strategies for anxiety-reducing, clear notes that support focus, listening, studying, and improved performance on tests and exams.

Writing Worries: Understanding writing anxiety and how to make it easier - with Jenny Sampirisi (Writing Learning Strategist)

Wednesday, March 19th, 7 - 7:45 PM ET
Virtual over Zoom

Many students struggle with writing not because they lack ability but because they feel overwhelmed by the process. This session will explore why writing anxiety happens, how perfectionism and executive functioning challenges contribute, and what parents can do to support their teen in overcoming fear and avoidance. You’ll leave with…

  • Understanding writing anxiety and how it presents in students

  • The role of executive functioning in writing challenges

  • How to encourage low-stakes writing to build confidence

Math Anxiety: Skill gaps and test stress - with Andrew Lorrison (Math Learning Strategist)

Thursday, March 20th, 7 - 7:45 PM ET
Virtual over Zoom

Numeracy and math confidence were hit particularly hard for many learners in the pandemic. Andrew Lorrison, OCT-certified teacher, math professor, and Awakened Learning's Math Learning Strategist, will help parents help their learners (re)build numeracy through practical, ready-to-try approaches that make math friendly again and reduce math anxiety, strategies to support 'breaking down numbers,' and puzzles that renew curiosity and joy in math learning.
